A must-have if you're an admin in any capacity!

When I read The Innovative Admin, I was expecting a book that told me how to become a better admin. And I got that. What I WASN'T expecting was a book that was so thoroughly and thoughtfully written. Julie Perrine has managed to write in such a way that she makes you want to get up and rethink EVERYTHING! It's impressive. What could have been a wordy book about boring administrative tasking is, in fact, a thought provoking guide to self improvement that extends far beyond just your professional life. As a freelance writer and Virtual Assistant, I would gladly recommend this book to others.

Excellent Motivator, Great Tool!

I stumbled upon this book when looking for ways to increase the presence of our company's admin staff. We each have had the growing desire to "do more" and be better recognized as vital to our respective groups & the company as a whole. This book has absolutely furthered this objective & started us on that path by offering a new way to approach our jobs/careers - the innovative mindset!
The book is an easy read and the author takes a familiar approach, as if she is talking to a friend. But don't be fooled by the easy-going approach - the information is solid and offers a fresh perspective to the administrative field that fully supports career progress through innovation. In fact, one of our [admin] staff works daily creating consulting seminars for the management level and she commented that much of the same information is in their seminars.
There are "Action Plans" at the end of each chapter that work to support & ingrain the ideas presented. In considering our own work, we have become more readily able to recognize alternative approaches and we're learning how to be progressively innovative, instead of passively.
This is a definite recommend for any administrative professional!
(FYI, on actual book's website, there are many valuable tools available for FREE download that will further support the ideas presented in the book!)

Nothing New At All

I was hoping this book would be more admin oriented, but it was more like a pep talk. If I wanted the information in this book I would just go straight to Zig Zigler or Les Brown. The information was general, but I was hoping to see more direct examples related to Administration/Office Manager. The author pointed out some good "motivational" resources, but again nothing in the area of being a stellar/innovative admin directly. Of course if you read the book it can help you over all, but if you really want to understand what it takes to be a good administrative queen/king you may want just straight out get Administrative Assistant's and Secretary's Handbook and use this book to simply cheer you on. I think the word "Admin" should be left out of the title and it should be titled "Being the Best You Can Be" or something generic like that. Nothing special or ground breaking in the admin world in this book at all, but it is a "nice" pick-you-up concept on paper. If it were marketed differently I would give it 3 stars, but because she brags about how good of an administrative professional she is I was hoping she would have shared some juicy office secrets with the readers. I'm giving it 2 stars because I think the title is misleading. Oh yeah! She has a nice website that seems to have more juicy stuff on it, but you have to pay to be a member, pay to be in on the webinar and such. I think this book was just a marketing tool and not really designed for admins. She throws in a couple of cool downloads to help you plan travel and stuff like that, but again it all funnel marketing to her paid programs. I wish her many blessings and continued prosperity, I just wished she would beef this book up more.
