Buy the earlier version if you really need it for course work.

This text was required for a DNP course and provided a lot of rambling thought on the chaos of healthcare. However, there was little to no practical information about how to lead in healthcare. In fact this text is almost identical to their earlier version and I find it very sad that authors are taking advantage of students by producing "new and updated" texts every few years. I found the only thing "new and updated" in this text was the cover, the color of the text, and the titles of the chapters. Even the call out boxes were the same; just on different pages. Interesting.

I would recommend that you buy the earlier version if you really need it for course work. The content is what counts and you can pretty easily match it up by looking at the table of contents that you can find here on Amazon.

This was a required text for an Organizational Leadership course in my DNP program. I have to say that I really enjoyed this text. It provided relevant, current information for the course. As an APRN and not an administrator, I still found the material to be engaging.

Transformational Leadership

"Quantum Leadership" induces the reader to want to engage in transformational leadership to develop better leaders in the field of nursing. Each chapter includes points to lead group discussions and key points. Case studies are also available which serve as good knowledge checks. My only complaint is the writer(s) often reiterate the same point multiple times in one chapter, belaboring the subject to the point of frustration. It is as if they are afraid the reader won't understand the theme of the chapter.

John Swanger is a successful musician, a pastor with a past and a missionary to the down and out. He has spent over twenty years in full time ministry feeding the homeless. Then after 30 years of rejection, the doors finally opened for him to go back into prison as a preacher and worship leader. He has ministered in prisons in Oklahoma, Florida, Colorado, Texas and Arizona. He also speaks and preforms in The Federal Prison System. Riveting and thought-provoking. A definite keeper.

What a wonderful story of redemption. Shackled caused me to think twice about the men and women behind bars. I've always believed everybody has a story. Good or bad, everyone has a story. And John Swanger's story is fascinating, riveting, and thought-provoking. From a childhood of abuse, abandonment, and numerous orphanages to being 19 and a member of the most prolific bank robbery gang in Texas history, being caught, and thrown in prison at such a young age, Shackled reads like great fiction. But it's a true story. A story of survival behind bars, of reflection and self-realization. And ultimately, a story of redemption. After reading Shackled, I can't think of those in prisons now without wondering what their stories are and what their future is if only they find guidance and encouragement. And knowing that John Swanger is out there right now doing prison ministry and giving hope of a future to inmates, paying it forward, makes me smile. A highly recommended read.

John Swanger writes an amazing story of his life thats full sadness and happiness. He writes his story full of heart and emotion. I'm truly blessed to be able to call john my friend. Its a book that is a must read for anyone. If I write much more I'll give away the story so please read it for yourself. You will not be disappointed. So blessed you entered my life.

It's hard to even come up with an appropriate review for John's book. I got the chance of knowing him as a person prior to reading his book. I was riveted from the first page. It is such a compelling story about a man and the choices he made in his life. I can't wait for the sequel he plans to release! Such a good read! I highly recommend it.

Daniel Reisberg is The Patricia and Clifford Lunneborg Professor of Psychology at Reed College in Portland, Oregon. Average textbook for an interesting topic.

The information in this textbook is comprehensive and details all the major concepts that cognitive psychology contains. It clearly defines complicated terms and ideas, and elucidates on the major theories that are specific to this field of psychology.

I have a few issues with the textbook that hurts its utility, with the first being its inadequate subject index making it difficult to find specific concepts or words and the page number they correspond to. I experienced this many times while trying to complete assignments, and found it simpler to google the concepts as it was faster than skimming the chapters for what I was seeking. Secondly, I feel the textbook goes into extremes in its attempts to relate the material in a pragmatic sense, when an explanation of the theory and the data that supports it would be more than sufficient. Finally, the ZAPS program seems a bit dated visually and could benefit from an overhaul of its user interface.

Overall, this textbook will get you through the course and give you a decent foundation in cognition.

With ZAPS?

I received the book and workbook....but NO zaps. When I echatted with a rep was told I could get a refund and he was sorry it didn't come with it like it should have. As a result my online professor is thankfully working with me as I have labs due! I wrote an email to the ZAPS people too....no response. It's difficult to trust again. I paid for the combo and did not get it...somebodies making some extra money! I like the text...workbook not impressive.

Bad book with potential

Although I learned alot of interesting things from this book I hated it. The author was so repetitive about simple things but only briefly explained most of th hard to grasp, head scratching things. Also, when past research experiments were explained to prove a point the author never mentioned any limitations and seemed as if he just wanted the reader to take it as face value. This was the biggest issue for me because I could come up with alot of possible limitations of the mentioned experiment that made me question the authors explabations of how things worked and why they worked that way.

Very approachable

Clear and concise primer for IR/FPA

This is a very clear, concise, and useful starting book for learning about foreign policy analysis.

I would definitely recommend this to people just starting out an IR/FPA course. Also check out Stephen Van Evera's "Guide to methods for students of political science", the first chapter of which can be found online.

I actually used this as a starting point for holding a course on foreign policy analysis, it goes over all the basics and the chapters are clearly headed. Despite being a few years old this is clearly still relevant today.

Another reviewer here calls it "incomprehensible page fodder" which I'd have to take issue with. Anybody with a high/secondary school grasp of the English language should have no difficulty with the book. There were a few latin phrases, but they were either so commonplace in English use that it didn't matter, or it was clear what was meant by the context. I can only imagine that this other reviewer had to buy this book for a subject requirement, and neither liked the course, the teacher, or the subject itself! If you are interested in foreign policy or international relations, this is a great primer like I said. A parent bought it for me whilst I was at university and it served me well right through to my masters.

The author is even more cynical than I am

I guess the paid reviews on Amazon and other sites are part of the game nowadays. This isn't one of them.

I'm a guy who's read a lot of evolutionary psychology, and I thought this was pretty good. The problem was that I already knew most of what was in the book, although most people probably don't. I was hoping for some kind of reconciliation and solution to the battle-of-the-sexes mentality, but the author is even more cynical than I am.

If you've read authors like David Buss, websites like bakadesuyo, and "manosphere" stuff like the red pill or roissy(heartiste), you are probably decently well-versed in the concepts this book proposes... Although this book has a more palatable tone, it still felt like reading the redpill subreddit, albeit with less fluff.

I would have liked more focus on what the porn industry taught him, because that is his unique selling point. The stuff about abused women being promiscuous could have used more citation and elaboration. A lot of the book seemed to be sort of anecdotal or inferred, which is still valid, but not ideal. However, I think evo-psych in general is plagued by over-reliance on surveys and difficulty of performing empirical research. I wouldn't have minded if the author had blatantly thrown in many more anecdotes, as long as he was clear that that's all they were.

I'm curious how the author intends to proceed with relationships now that he has written a book which blatantly and repeatedly tells men to cheat but lie about it. The fact that he would shoot himself in the foot by writing such a book makes me wonder whether he is more idealistic than he lets on. (Prioritizing honesty and the search for truth over his own reproductive success?)

Despite my criticisms, I enjoyed reading a book by a fellow evo-psych nut, who never censors himself for political correctness' sake. I find it hard to disagree with the main tenets of this book, although I wish I could, because my idealism comes into conflict with them; I like honesty.

Incredibly Self-serving Thoughts

The author’s many years in the porn industry has undoubtedly fostered this deeply cynical approach to male-female relationships. In his view, all men immediately want intercourse with every attractive woman they see, and all women judge the men they meet by the size of their bank accounts. He feels a woman owes a man sex in return for the money spent courting her with restaurants outings, jewelry and flowers, and any waiting period before falling into his bed is for appraising his financial standing. If a woman doesn’t intend to “put out,” he maintains, then she should pay the restaurant tab! He discounts male-female chemistry or romantic love, equating marriage with the simple exchange of sexual access for monetary benefit – a legal form of prostitution, in other words. Adultery, in his view is to be expected as men are at the mercy of their hormones – a point he makes over and over again. A wife who gains weight or ages should expect her mate to stray –it’s her fault because men are naturally attracted to younger, svelte women instead of older, overweight ones. The secret to a successful marriage, then, is for a wife to turn a blind eye to her mate’s inevitable infidelity, neither questioning him about it nor investigating his suspicious activities. If their “happy” home is destroyed due to his straying, it’s not the fault of the husband but of the wife for making a big deal out it! Oh, but it’s also natural for a man to exchange his aging wife for a new, younger model, something she should apparently accept with humility and gratitude for any financial compensation. Yes, and it's normal, as well, for a husband to be murderously incensed if the neglected wife dares step out on him, calling into question the paternity of "his" children.

How many ways can this author be wrong? Let me count them. Or no, let’s just call BS on this rationalization for the actions of immature, egotistical males who are too weak to control their sexual impulses, and too cowardly and dishonorable to make any form of commitment, much less one to last a lifetime.

An interesting and candid perspective on the sexual behaviors of men and women.

This book takes an honest and often humorous approach in interpreting the sexual behaviors of men and women at various stages of life (dating, marriage, etc.). Many of the concepts presented in this book, which are obvious to me as a male, are actually quite foreign to women (such as the analogies of food and sex); conversely, some of the concepts that are so obvious to women were actually quite foreign to me (and, I assume, to most other men). People should read this book not to better understand their own behavior, which will seem obvious to them, but to understand the motivations and desires of the other gender, since what is obvious to them is clearly not so obvious to us. Highly recommended read!
